Book Club

The MP and I have a standing date night – every Thursday we hit the local bookstore for a cookie, a chocolate milk, a mommy drink, some trashy British magazines (for me not him) and a book (natch).
We hit the coffee bar and consume our goods then have to take the elevator up and the stairs down before hitting the kids’ section for his book. All of the store employees know us (they ask where he is if I happen to go in alone) and are very kind, part of the reason we always go to the same store – that and their cookies are better than the alternatives. They are also kind enough to stock three of the British magazines I enjoy – I only had to beg to get one of them added which is just trash-tastic and I know I am not the only one who buys it so I am doing my bit for Queen and Country there as well.

Now our visits are usually a good time for us to catch up over a beverage and have a little mommy/mud puddle chin wag but last night’s outing was one for the record books. He was the MP on 10 I tell ya.

As we are walking in the front door we are in mid conversation about snow banks when he informs me “Squirrels are hibernating”. I agree that yes, squirrels are currently hibernating and that wouldn’t it be nice if we could hibernate.
He sighs, and replies “yes, cuddled up on the couch would be good right about now.”

So we get our drinks and cookie (I had their new chai latte, it was good) and while we are sitting at the high table (we have to sit there if it is available – he loves to be up high) we are talking about this and that and all of a sudden he exclaims:
“I just snapped my fingers for the VERY SECOND TIME!”
He then corrects that to the very first time and states that he hopes he will be able to snap it for the second time when he is ten. The finger snapping doesn’t come easy to the MP apparently.

I decided that this is all too funny not to be remembered so I dig out my little notebook and start writing these gems down.
He then informs me I have to add “Mommy is my bestest friend”.
Well of COURSE I will add that.

And nights like these I appreciate what a good friend and book buddy he truly is.
