Run Like the Wind!
The MP and I ran trail races this past weekend along the ocean in beautiful Rye, NH – he the ½ mile, me the 5k. He has been a running nut for awhile now but this was the first time he ran ‘alone’ (which means unaccompanied by an adult on the ½ mile loop but let's be clear: I didn’t blink the entire time so I could watch him like a hawk).
He ran a very fast 3 minutes and 53 seconds which also was his official race number. I think that is the racing gods' (Apollo perhaps?) way of telling him to keep burning rubber.
Last weekend we had taken him to buy an official pair of running sneakers – they were expensive given that he will wear them for three months and BIG: A size 2 1/2. I shake my head as I imagine me trying to scold the 16 year old, six foot tall MP for not taking out the garbage.
He wore his new sneakers around a couple of days and broke them in. He credits them with his being so fast on the course, and a ½ mile wasn’t quite enough for him because he insisted on running it a second time ‘just for fun’.
The endorphins kicked in and we had to peel him off the ceiling before he came crashing down after a big lunch.
